Central Square is a dynamic and historic Cambridge neighborhood with a rich cultural context, diverse population, and active commercial scene. Developing as farmland in the late 18th century, Central Square’s fate was determined by the building of the West Boston Bridge (current Longfellow Bridge) in 1793, which radically shortened travel to Boston and triggered development in the region.
